INSTAGRAMMABLE RIGHT OF PASSAGE

Colette Goh, Coordinator, Client Strategy

One of my favourite Christmas traditions is visiting the Toronto Christmas Market in the Distillery District. Just like every other Instagrammable rite of passage in this city (like Jays games, rooftop patios or brunch), the Market is packed with yuppies and screaming babies, but for once I don’t feel like Scrooge.
Maybe it’s the magic of Mariah Carey, the twinkling strings of lights or the mulled wine I’m gulping down in an effort to keep warm. But it’s kind of magical to see people look up from their phones and actually smile at each other when they accidentally make eye contact. Coming together at the Christmas Market feels like an old school, small town tradition that makes this big city feel like a real community, even if it only lasts from Black Friday to Boxing Day.
